George Balanchine's Coppélia excerpt Act 3 Pas de Deux | Pacific Northwest Ballet
“On Friday’s opening night, principals Leta Biasucci and James Kirby Rogers played the lead couple, Swanilda and Franz, with an utterly charming playfulness; both have a way of lighting up the entire stage with their presence.” - The Seattle Times

Season 23/24 Review - Pacific Northwest Ballet

You and so many others felt the thrill of dance magic this season - from Petite Mort, to Swan Lake, and The Seasons’ Canon. But off the stage, PNB is dancing faster and faster to keep pace with increasing expenses in an increasingly challenging funding environment. Contributions are down this year, and we need your help. It takes the perfect pas de deux of ticket sales and generous donations to...

A wedding pas de deux from real-life engaged PNB Principal dancers Sarah-Gabrielle Ryan and Kyle Davis. We asked them what it was like to partner together: “We’re so comfortable with each other that our dialogue is often unfiltered when working together - for the person leading the rehearsal it’s probably like watching a scene from a bad rom-com. The rehearsal process can be challenging, but it...

Pacific Northwest Ballet brought to life a new redesign of George Balanchine's Coppélia back in 2010, with the help of acclaimed scenic and costume designer, Roberta di Bagno. With the majority of the sets and costumes being made here in Seattle, here's a throwback to the creation of the Act I that takes place in a quaint town with lush wisteria hanging from the rafters. "Because the story is s...

Words of Wisdom from Principal Ballet Dancers
What performance is this?
❤
Hahahahahah 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ohh what PLAY
Also so the other actors don't recoil in shock from your appearance. Happened to me once as the Cheshire Cat
Stunning! SO musical. I remember seeing PNB at City Center back in the 90’s. I believe Carrie was still a corps member. I’m embarrassed that I can’t remember which piece it was where she had a solo, but I definitely remember her because the dancing was so dazzling. The audience was mad for her.
I love this choreography. ❤️
How cool is it that a magician comes out to reattach everything.
I know everyone involved; the dancers, directors, choerographers, stage hand, lighting etc put in a ton of work, but hate how it replaced the version I loved and wanted to see live, but I was young and couldn't go to. The one from Stowell and Sendak, with it's own somber vibe, this one just feels like all others.
ryan got dat dump truck
Coppelia?
I love how it took until the actual note about the trousers coming undone for them to come out of character.
Now I really want to watch a dress rehearsal but I don’t think my local theatre does them for the public
More an example of completely unprofessional stage-management. Who stops a play for wardrobe malfunction>?!!!! 😂
This is very unprofessional. You're supposed to keep going and not bring attention to it.
we did rehearsal but never a dress rehearsal... i was female lead and my male lead ended up loosing his belt halfway off stage and then tried to fix it in front of the audience 💀
Rehearsal or not this was done for the UA-cam video, they would always allow the actors to continue if there was a wardrobe malfunction. It's excellent practice to push your actors to stay in character despite distractions. So just saying they never would have been stopped except to film it for this exact interaction
Attending a dress rehearsal is a thing I didn't even know you could do, but now it's going on my bucket list!
Poor Dr. Coppelius!
I would so pay go see the dress!!!
The pre shows are always the best. Never know what will happen
What is this?
of course do that outside of plays and people hate that.
I did a two-man show with a lot of quick changes (we each played eleven characters) and despite me inquiring early on about velcro or breakaways, each costume was multi-layers of regular clothing. My default costume under everything was a pair of tights and bike shorts, but they decided to dress one of my female characters in very similar Capri pants. In a performance, I hit the wings and my three dressers were standing there with armloads of my next costume. I hooked my thumbs in what I thought was just the Capris, but accidentally got bike shorts too, and when they came down, they took everything else with them. I had just gone full commando in front of three women. One spun 180 degrees in place, the other two chuckled at her and the first thing I could think to say was a quote from The Young Ones: "It was bound to happen sooner or later." The mortified one got me back, though. At a karaoke party a year or two later, when I entered the kitchen where folks were playing cards, she sees me and loudly tells her new boyfriend, "I've seen him naked." Before I can even think of a retort, the buddy of mine dealing cards interjects, "Get used to her saying that!" I did improv comedy for twenty years, and that's still one of the fastest and funniest remarks I've ever heard.
I feel like Doctor Coppelius' pants falling down would be in keeping with the spirit of the ballet
what play is this?
Classic Ryan.
What happened to his pants ? Lol
I went to their show! They both danced beautifully
Dress rehearsals are so important and this is why lol 😂
Механические лошади.Жеребцы в одной упряжке.
Give us babiiii!
why 'stress' rehearsals are really important
One dress rehearsal my dress got caught when I was quick changing. It was halfway off and we had to break the hook (from the hook and eye) which was stuck in my costume underneath to get it off me.
❤❤❤
He looks so old in costume but once we stands up, you can see how he is a young man with a wig and bald cap on. Great makeup and acting.
I just remember in school that our dress rehearsals were for the kids in school to watch us perform. And this varied of course. I recall doing dress rehearsals only for kindergarteners and 1st graders and sometimes it was for all the grades from Pre-K all the way to 6th grade since all those grades were taught in the same building.
Dwight Yoakam is a versatile performer. Singing, acting, stage. Funny too (funny “hah hah” not fudge - packing funny).
What show was this? Ryan is the best, whoever he is, lol.
my friend’s overalls ripped during a pantomime some point during the final song (actual show) and nobody realised until the walk down when she did her final bow💀
Can someone please tell me the title of this ballet is? I have a childhood memory where it's my very first ballet show but I didnt know the title of it, and this looks so much like the ballet I watched when I was a wee lass
Probably part of the show, lame either way
That voice is so soothing ohmygod
I just had an amazing idea for a play. An extremely serious thriller... but there are no dress rehearsals. They play it ear, fix anything that needs to be fixed during the actual play and then just go back to being very serious once the problem is fixed and never address the breaks ever again.
Horrible. There's a reason actors are taught "the show must go on." You're not supposed to break character or flow while you deal with issues like these.
When you want to ice skate but the budget said stage 😂
He acted his A** off!
Beautiful old age makeup!
She is so pretty, looks like Sarah Jessica Parker!
Dress rehearsals give me war flashbacks actually. Back in high school we had a school trip to go watch a dress rehearsal of Peer Gynt, we had to pay. The following day the principal came offering a free school trip to a career fair at a local university. I was absurdly paranoid over college and my future as a whole, so I sadly took the career fair. When we arrived at the fair, it was a scam. They had a representative at the college gates telling us they changed the location to a local bar that was emptied out, and when we went to the new location the career fair was actually a guy selling us a course in a shady platform. The pamphlet said there would be guest UA-camrs who were nowhere to be seen, and video editing workshops that didn’t happen, I had to swim through a crowd of angry mothers swarming the scammer. On Monday, half the class wouldn’t shut up about how amazing Peer Gynt was. FML.
